Straight answers about getting into medicine and dentistry — grades, timing, and how the right support changes the odds.

Grades & eligibility The programme UCAT & the wider application Practicalities

Most UK medical and dental schools ask for AAA at A-level, usually including Chemistry and often Biology, and some ask for A*AA. Because competition is so intense, meeting the minimum is rarely enough — strong, secure grades in Chemistry and Biology are what keep an application competitive, and what determine whether a student is given the predicted grades they need to apply in the first place.

Yes — but timing matters enormously. A predicted D doesn't make the goal impossible, but predicted grades are set early in Year 12 and used to decide whether a student can realistically apply. The key is turning the grades around before predictions are finalised. Our founder went from Ds to A*AA in months — which is exactly why we focus on fast, structured improvement in the two subjects that matter most.

It depends entirely on the kind of tutoring. Irregular, pay-as-you-go lessons rarely produce real change because there's no structure and no way to measure progress. A structured programme with regular lessons, a clear method and constant tracking is a different thing — it's designed to move grades, not just fill an hour. For a goal as competitive as medicine or dentistry, the right tutoring can be the difference between being eligible to apply and not.

Chemistry and Biology are the subjects that gate entry to medicine and dentistry — both the most commonly required and among the hardest A-levels to score top grades in. By specialising in exactly these two subjects for exactly this audience, we go deeper than a generalist tutor who teaches every subject to every kind of student.

On most tutoring platforms you're matched with a qualified teacher or a general university student and pay by the hour. Our tutors are all current UK medicine and dentistry students who have recently been through the exact journey your child is on — the grades, the UCAT, the interviews. They're hand-picked and trained to deliver our method, so they act as mentors, not just subject tutors.

A full week is too long to leave a misconception unaddressed — small gaps quietly compound into big ones. Seeing a student twice a week keeps them on track, lets us measure progress constantly, and means we can correct misunderstandings before they settle in. It's what turns scattered lessons into genuine momentum.

Most students sit the UCAT in the summer between Year 12 and Year 13, so serious preparation usually begins a few months before, in the spring and summer of Year 12. That said, A-level grades should never be neglected for UCAT prep — grades are what make a student eligible in the first place. We help students balance both.

A-levels are our core focus because they're the foundation everything else rests on. But we also support the wider application — UCAT preparation, the UCAS personal statement, and interview practice — so students have specialist help at every stage that makes or breaks an application.

Our programmes are £280 per month for a single subject (Chemistry or Biology) and £500 per month for both, including two one-to-one lessons per week per subject. It's month-to-month with no long lock-in, so families stay because they see results, not because they're tied in.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, which lets us match each student with the right specialist tutor regardless of location and makes fitting lessons around a busy school schedule far easier.
